CONTACT, ORDERING & PRICING
The Process
My philosophy on designing and building custom furniture and art is that there is no point in ordering something custom made, unless you get exactly what you want. No surprises, except maybe that the experience and end product exceed your expectations. To that end, you play a huge role in the design of your item, as I need to make sure the composition and function hits the mark perfectly for you. I will spend as much time as needed trading emails and photographs, talking on the phone, and visiting your space, if required. There is no such thing as too many questions or details from you. A scale sketch will be completed and packaged with a free custom quote for you, which will include a breakdown of pricing, all details discussed, as well as any inspiration photos or other applicable information.
Pricing and Payment
Pricing for custom furniture pieces is heavily dependent on a myriad of factors that can vary greatly from project to project, even in the same category. Among these price influencing factors are: wood species, quality of grain, dimension and thickness of the wood, whether or not resin is used, how much resin is used, complexity of the build, size of the build, delivery or shipping costs, hardware, and last but not least - the experience level of the maker and value of their time and talent. A live edge slab of wood can range in price from under $1,000 to over $10,000 for the same species and relative size! As such, it is almost impossible to assign a price without the necessary specific information about a custom build. Custom work is expensive, but I have sold items for as little as $10, to well over $20,000, so there is a range of products and options for every budget. I am sensitive to your budgetary goals, and will always work creatively and provide options to meet them, if possible.
I accept payment in virtually every method, prefer fee-free payment options if possible, and require half down or full payment to get your project locked on my calendar. I deliver for free in the Portland, Oregon area and will deliver for a fee to reasonable distances in the greater NW. I can ship anywhere and am happy to discuss potential shipping costs as well as strategies to mitigate them, for your project.
Timing
How long will it take to make your custom piece? Of course, this varies quite a bit as well. For most of my years as a furniture builder, my lead time for custom furniture builds has been 4-6 months from the date payment is received. This timeframe can and will fluctuate, based on how busy I am, and/or the size of your project. I am often able to complete smaller projects in much less time as I can work on multiple smaller pieces at once. Sometimes, I am able to complete larger projects almost immediately, depending on what other work is on my bench. For all of the above relating to design, pricing and timing, the best option is to simply contact me. I’d love to hear from you and discuss your custom project idea.
